Blogger Recognition Award #3

Hiya you! Yes you! This whole blogging thing is a bit mad sometimes isn’t it? Look at me typing away right now as if we’re actually having a conversation, cos to me we are having a conversation right now, like two middle aged women catching up on the high street. Plus you guys are my pals, my internet friends, some of the coolest people I know and why wouldn’t I want to stop and say y’alright love to you!? Anyway enough about me and that weird ramble…How are you? Have you had a good week? TELL MEEEEEE?!

I’ve only been nominated/tagged in another Blogger Recognition Award haven’t I?! This was from Michael who I actually began chatting to from a twitter chat, I think it was the CBeeChat actually which is on Monday evenings! It was really great fun to chat to likeminded people and make new Blog connections and friends. He has a really great blog (just here, give it a read, love it, inhale it, all the above) which I’d really urge you to check out plus he is active across his social media channels so feel free to send him some LOL gifs on my behalf please and thanks.

It sounds really cringe, probably massively so to everyone else, but it does genuinely warm my heart when I get nominated or mentioned for anything for my blog or even a #FF on twitter or Instagram. It makes me feel so proud that I am getting recognised by my lovely fellow bloggers among the blogosphere.

Anyway! So if you’re new around here or new to the blogging biz, the Blogger Recognition Award is basically an idea that started up (I should really have looked more into the history surrounding this before I started chit chattering on about it) in order to recognise, celebrate and share 15 of your favourite bloggers to let them know how brilliant they are. Share why you started blogging and two tips you’d give to newbie bloggers. I really wish I came across this type of post when I first started blogging.

SunshineBloggerAward (4)

Why I started blogging:

So this is a short story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there and I’ll tell you how I became the creator of a blog called What Abbie Says….LOL sorry about that it had to be done. So I started blogging back in 2012 actually on a completely different blog page under a different name and I was only 17 at the time and I really didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Not that I really do now to be honest! I used it as somewhere to share my thoughts on everything from nail varnish to my Topshop hauls to why I decided not to go to University. I took a bit of a backstep from it as life kind of got in the way and then I restarted here last year. From the beginning I never really thought of blogging as something more than a hobby or something to do to share my thoughts and feelings on pretty much anything that I wanted. I’m passionate about writing and creativity and have always wanted to be a writer of sorts. I’ve never really given it much consideration about if this could ever become a full time thing or give me a fixed income. Obviously if it did it would be amazing but I’m not holding out much hope at the moment!

If I had to share two pearls of wisdom with a new blogger:

  1. Have fun. Don’t worry about keeping up with the others in terms of what your blog should look like, what you should write about, how you should photograph things. It is your space, make it yours and as long as you’re happy with it, babe you do what you want! If you want to talk about model airplanes DO IT, if you want to write about why peanut butter is so much better than almond butter then DO IT (and you’d have my complete and full backing on cos peanut butter is honestly the glue that holds my life together)
  2. Self Promo. This is something I really need to get better at and usually post a link to a latest blog post once or twice onto my twitter page and that’s it. To get the best engagement for your blog, be your own showman and PR and leave a link on you Instagram bio if you want other bloggers, PRs and brands or readers to find you that way then it’ll be so much easier. Similarly sharing your blog links via Pinterest or Bloglovin’ does wonders in getting long lasting views!

I’m going to nominate a small handful of wonderful bloggers that I follow. These guys really deserve so much more credit and praise and I wish I could promote them or be a cheerleader for them day in day out but I might look like a bit of a weirdo and like a crazy fan. Which is half true. No shame. Well without much further ado. I’m going to tell you about some of the best internet people this side of Shane Dawson.

Vixxy

Laura

Shay

Kamilah or K (I don’t know which one she prefers but either way she is VERY cool and I stan her pure existence)

Kate

Lyd

Ar (After days of an extensive search turns out that’s just a nickname and there’s me with my Dorset twang pronouncing it like ARRRRRRRRRRRRR)

Hannah

I adore each and every single one of these gals. I am so truly thankful for blogging and social media for being weird and wonderful but for also introducing me to such fabulous people like these brilliant girls.

MUCH LOVE. X

Blogger Recognition Award #2

Happy Monday ya little pain au chocolats, I’m finally getting round to writing up the  Blogger Recognition Award Laura from Purlls of Wisdom tagged me in last week. I won’t lie I am finding this whole #Blogtober lark a bit of a struggle. My plan was to write interesting and fun content every day of October and so far I feel like it’s been a bit mediocre. But I tend to think that about the good majority of things I do. Without sounding like a mega negative Nancy I’ve always been a bit of a pessimist. Anyway! Onwards with this post. This is one of those tags that you see floating around the blogosphere that fellow bloggers nominate each other for. It’s a fun way of getting to know other bloggers around the world and also for celebrating other blogs that deserve the recognition and the love.

SunshineBloggerAward (1)

The rules of the tag are as followed:

  • Prove a link back to the original post and the person who tagged you.
  • Write a small post about the origins of your blog story and how it all got started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select and tag 15 other bloggers you want to give this award too.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED:

I spoke about my blogger story and how it all got started in this post just here a few months ago. I have always loved writing and creative writing, ever since I was a little girl so to be honest it’s not much of a shock that passion has stayed with me, and will hopefully stay with me throughout life. I decided when I was about 16 or 17 to start a blog documenting possibly every scrap detail of my life from what I wore to sixth form, to the colour of my nail polish that day to where I was eating. I stayed with that blog for about 2 or 3 years until life kind of took over and it became more of a chore to me than something relaxing, therapeutic and fun. Early last year I was toying with the idea of blogging again as a way of destressing and communicating with other likeminded, super cool people. Eventually I made a blog in about May or June last year and use it as somewhere to share my thoughts, foods and opinions.

ADVICE:

If I had to impart my wisdom with newbie bloggers I’d probably say two things.

  • Try not to worry about numbers, stats and keeping up with others. It’s fantastic when you hit a certain milestone or if something you’ve worked really hard on get’s the recognition it and you truly deserve but if that is the sole reason why you’re blogging to become internet famous, the next Zoella and a Coconut Lane discount code with your name on it then the blogging biz might be a bit of a struggle for you.
  • Get involved with blogger tags, groups and chats on Twitter and Instagram. I have becomes friends with some truly wonderful people from all around the world because of this. Some living far away some only down the m25. It’s such a lovely to speak with and one day meet such lovely people. I have a list as long as my arm of people I’d love to meet from these communities and I’m hoping one day soon I might actually be able to put a plan into action and actually see their real life faces.

I know the award says to tag 15 other people however I’m going to tag just a handful as I have another one of these from Michael coming up at the end of the week. I’m so touched and so grateful to be tagged in these it always makes me so happy and truly makes my day!

Laura

Zara

Jess

Jessie-Ann

Esther

Gillian

Veronica

I’ve chosen to tag these girls because I’m such a huge fan of their content and the way in which they write and also style their blogs. You can tell they put so much of their hard work, time and effort into it. As soon as one of their posts ping into my inbox I genuinely get so excited to sit down and have a read. If I could give each and every one of you an Oscar, a Grammy, a Pulitzer Prize or a piece of the crown like in Mean Girls I would do it in a shot.

Thanks for reading.

MUCH LOVE. x

Sunshine Blogger Award!!!!

I’m not a very good blogger, I either write on here consistently, 3 times a day or nothing for weeks and months at a time. I only own one thing marble and that’s a coaster for my gin and I’ve only ever been able to take one decent flatlay. I’m not really down with all the blogging lingo if you asked me about my DA or my media kit or about the latest blogging drama the best I could give you would be a slightly derpy confused face because I honestly have no clue. But what I do know is that the blogging community can come together at times and be so lovely and supportive. Floating about amongst this community are a number of different awards that fellow bloggers can nominate other bloggers for. I remember on my old blog, my first blog, all those lightyears ago I got nominated for the liebster award (I’m not sure if that’s still a thing??) But oh my goodness I was running around as if I just got nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar all at the same time. I told everyone I came across that little old ME, was a worthy award winner. Get your ballgowns at the ready, lads!!

You can tell amateur dramatics is something I should have pursued. Nevertheless I was and am still so so chuffed to this day if I am lucky enough to get these. Just last week the very lovely, Rosie nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger award. Following her both through her blog and her twitter page I really like how naturally she writes. She posts such lovely, honest things that are so gorgeously engaging to read. She’s such a natural at this whole blogging BIZ!! If you don’t follow her yet, I would strongly recommend you do, but definitely check out her blog and have a read of one of my favourite posts of hers which is this one. Honest, raw and it totally puts feelings I’ve also had into words. Thank you so much Rosie for this kind nomination it means so much from such a great blogger!!

So before I get down with answering all of Rosie’s questions I’ll explain a little bit about the Sunshine Blogger Award. It is an award, or tag should I say, given from bloggers to other fellow bloggers that are seen as positive, warm and inspiring. Like little rays sunshine. Hence the name eh?! The tag consists of writing a post, tagging and thanking the person who nominated you. Answering the 11 questions they set for you to do. Nominating 11 other bloggers and write for them 11 fun and interesting questions to answer too! So here goes!

SunshineBloggerAward

Favourite quote? ‘Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game’ I remembered this quote ever since the first time I watched A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff allllllllll those years ago and it stuck with me ever since. It’s a great film. I’m definitely watching that this evening.

What’s your favourite drink? Oooooh depends on the occasion. If I’m having a soft drink it’d be lemonade or the watermelon, peach and raspberry juice from Bills (it is INCRED and will quite possibly change your life). If I’m feeling boujee or going out for drinks something like a nice gin and tonic, or a amaretto sour or a pornstar martini will always get me in the partaaaaay mood. But you also can’t beat a good cup of tea can you?

Dream holiday destination? Morocco.

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour? Ice cream is legit one of my favourite sweet treats I’ve loved it since I was a child and I can’t see it ever changing! I love anything from pistachio, to blackcurrent, to a rich dark chocolate. I think i’ll say chocolate for now.

If you could have an office anywhere in the world where would it be and why? Either in Paris or in Times Square in New York. I’d do absolutely no work as I’d be staring out the window people watching all day but think of all the cool things and interesting people you’d see.

If you could change one decision in your life what would it be? That’s an interesting one. I’m quite content in a lot of the decisions I’ve made really. Maybe it would have been to knuckle down harder during school so I could have achieved a lot better grades. I wasn’t the best at revising and I wish I tried a lot harder. Or maybe I’d change so I’d have a bit of a filter in my head, during arguments I tend to say the first thing that pops into my head. Not thinking about if it’ll be a bit harsh or a bit over the line.

Summer or Winter? Summer.

Why did you start your blog? I wanted to get back into blogging again and found it a really therapeutic way of getting my thoughts and feelings out of my head and projected somewhere. I loved the sense of community and friendship that comes with it. Plus i wanted to get much better at cooking and baking and what better way to document it than on here???

Give a small piece of advice to a new blogger? I’d probably say to stay true to yourself and try not to get caught up with blogging drama often found on Twitter or Instagram. 99.9% of the people in the blogging community are lovely, wonderful, super cool, likeminded people but like anything there can be those few people that try and incite negativity. Pfft I don’t have time for that. You do you hunnaaay.

What word best describes your blog? I’d probably say eclectic.

If you could switch blogs with someone for a day who would it be and why? It’s a close one between Kamilah and Jess. I wish I could write as well as both of them respectively and also kinda wish Jess could come round and cook for me everyday. They are so kind and did I mention they are both really cool. I might be fangirling a little bit over here.

Thank you SO much for the tag Rosie, I really enjoyed answering these questions. To check out her answers read her post just here.

The 11 fab people I’m nominating are:

Jess from Jess Eats and Travels. Everything she posts whether it’s on her blog, her Instagram or her Twitter account makes me feel so hungry. She’s an incredibly talent cook and takes the best photography as well that literally leaves me drooling. She’s such a kind soul and one of my favourite blogging people.

K from kkamilah. I don’t think I can actually put into words just how much I obsess over this gal. She’s such a sweet and is actually hilarious on her Twitter too. I could spend ages just liking or RT’ing her content if it didn’t make me look like a crazy fan. Britney eat your heart out…

Ross from Man VS Adulthood. Ross is an absolute babe. If you’re not aware of him (umm where have you been??) he’s one of the kindest people I’ve come across online. He’s so supportive of so many people and that really is something to be praised. He’s an absolute cheerleader for so many different bloggers and is always RT’ing their work, giving them shoutouts or simply just spending the time chatting away to new people, making them feel welcomed and friendly. You are such a positive influence on my blogging journey Ross; so thank you for being you!

Jimmy from Jimmy Et Al. This is my real life buddy. Support him, love him, send him fanmail. He writes from the heart and I appreciate his warmth, his wit and his honesty in his writing. Also he’s my real life pal. So be extra lush for that reason.

Molly from Mollyyrees. She is also someone I know in real life. She is also lovely and her blog makes me want to drive to the airport ASAP and get on the next flight to Barcelona. She’s such a babe and if you don’t find her on her blog you can always find her on twitter catching up with a netflix boxset. Gossip Girl lovers for LIFE.

Tanya from Glam Glitz Gloss.  I wish there were enough words in the English language for me to explain just how FABULOUS this chick is. She’s so kind and thoughtful and also her blog is absolute goals. She’s always up to something exciting and I love her no holds barred attitude towards so many things in life. She’s honestly such an inspiration to me.

Michaela from Mleeek. Michaela is effortlessly cool in that I wish I could steal her wardobe and we could be best friends and go to concerts together and I could quote everything she says on Tumblr type of way. She’s one of the best and her photography is an actual dream.

Danielle from The Preemie Mummy. Danielle is so kind and considerate and her blog posts are such a joy to read. She has such a kind soul and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her say a bad word about anyone. Everyone needs a sprinkling of Danielle in their life!

Kaylea from Will Flirt for Food. Kaylea’s blog is actual real life food porn. From decadent recipes to the most amazing looking food she’s eaten out and about. I love seeing and reading about what she’s got up to on her travels, what she’s seen and more importantly what she ate!

Esther from Esther Wyse Blog.  Esther is the epitome of a sunshine blogger to me. She’s always so positive! She’s so lovely and you can tell she is inside and out through what she puts online. Her post on 24 life lessons she learnt in 24 years gives me LIFE (seen here). Especially the bit about cheese. Nothing goes wrong with extra cheese.

Alicia from Popular is Wrong. Alicia is such a brilliant writer. Everything she pens is heartfelt and thought provoking and I adore the way she writes. I really loved her post about Instagram Envy found just here. It really struck a chord with me and I really would urge anyone who’s a prolific Instagrammer like me to read it and let it sink in.

Aaaaand your 11 questions are:

  1. Why did you start your blog?
  2. Pineapple on a pizza? Yay or nay?
  3. If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?
  4. What would you have for your dream three course dinner?
  5. If you had unlimited funds to build a house that you would live in for the rest of your life, what would the finished house be like?
  6. Are you usually early or late?
  7. What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?
  8. What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
  9. How different was your life one year ago?
  10. What is something that your friends would consider “so you”?
  11. If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?

I AM SO EXCITED TO READ ALL YOUR ANSWERS!!!

Blogger Recognition Award

Good morning my delightful little pain au chocolat’s I hope you’ve had the most wondrous of weekends and are settled in and enjoying this brand new week. You may have noticed I am a brilliant mood at the moment and to top off my ever glowing mood the very lovely Erika nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award and I squealed seeing I’ve been tagged. So thanks a BILLION. If you have a spare moment or two I’d really urge you to check out Erika‘s blog; I love reading her posts or catching up with what she’s up to on Twitter or Instagram.

blogger image recognition

So the Blogger Recognition Award was made for bloggers by the bloggers. It’s basically a great way to celebrate, champion and let other bloggers know that you appreciate and are a fan of their hard work. If you are on twitter and follow the drama surrounding the blogging world and circles you may have seen a lot of drama erupting over the last couple of months or so. There has been a lot of bad business where a small few can let the side down a little and make it a more uncomfortable, catty place to be. There are some who are only blogging to get numbers, followers and freebies which is a great perk but if that’s the only reason you’re doing it then you might be in it for the wrong reasons! Before I ramble on and on for the rest of the night I’ll explain a bit more about the rules of this one.

  1. You have to write a blog post thanking the person that nominated you.
  2. Explain your story on how and why you started blogging.
  3. Share two general pieces of advice to other bloggers.
  4. Nominate fifteen other bloggers and let them know you’ve nominated them too.

I made homemade body scrubs.

I probably spent FAR too much time and money on my skincare and beauty regimes. I’m thoroughly getting into the crafting mood thinking about what I can make or bake next and after an afternoon out shopping and spending a ridiculous amount at Lush I tried my hand at making my own body scrubs. For some reason I thought it would be really quite difficult but I honestly couldn’t be farther from the truth with that. I was so, so shocked at how easy it was and also how much money I’ll be saving from now on. If Lush go into administration you can entirely blame me for no longer buying their Rub, Rub, Rub salt scrub. All you need to create your own concoctions are:

  • A sugar or salt. You could you any kind depending on what you want so you could really personalise it to you or even someone you’re gifting it too. Fine, course, maybe even himalayan pink sea salt if you want to make it look nice and pretty. Brown sugar, caster sugar, demerara, once again it’s all completely down to you and your preference.
  • A base oil. Coconut, vitamin E oil, olive oil, jojoba, sweet almond oil, wheatgerm, avocado oil are all really good options. They are all really nourishing for the skin, available in most health food shops or online too and all have a neutral scent so wouldn’t overpower your scrub with a strong smell.
  • An essential oil or something similar to add some scents or even colour to your scrub. Things like herbs might make for an interesting addition, freshly chopped mint, lavender or even rose petals. Rose would look lovely with a pink himalayan salt. I used coffee grounds to make a lovely coffee scrub. It helps reduce the appearance of cellulite so I think I might start bulk making it and selling it off!

IMG_3922

I had these four mini mason jars I originally bought from Ikea with good intentions to do something creative with but they were unused and I filled them instead. You could use kilner jars you can buy pretty much anywhere, bargain shops do them for a relatively cheap price. Old jam jars that have been washed out would look really cool and kitsch.

I made four different flavours or scents if you will. As tasty as these smell, I’d probably recommend against eating them!

I made a coffee scrub. Filling half the jar with brown sugar and the remaining half of coffee grounds I then poured that into a bowl. I did it like that so I knew it would definitely all fit in rather than making waaaaay too much. I poured the coffee/sugar mix into a bowl and then added a tablespoon of coconut oil until I got the consistency I wanted.

I also made a gingerbread scrub. Inkeeping with the christmas theme on my blog at the moment this would also make the perfect gift at christmas for those also keen on clean beauty and skincare. I used the same principal as with the coffee scrub but I filled the little jar up full of brown sugar. Pouring it into bowl with some ginger essential oil, cinnamon essential oil and a dash of star anise. mixing that altogether I poured it back into the jar and screwed the lid on tight.

Switching it up a bit I thought for my next two I would use a course sea salt base instead. Sea salt can be a bit more vigorous so using that in a body scrub would help with shifting dead skin cells and also helping to shift toxins from the body. Rubbing it in, in a slow circular motion helps to get the blood flowing reducing the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite as well as removing the toxins from the body.

I used sea salt with some coconut oil, a few dashes of some spearmint essential oil and some finely diced mint leaves from the garden.

For my last and final scrub, I added some lavender essential oil to sea salt and coconut oil. I wanted a runnier consistency for this one as I love applying it to my hair. It helps with repairing the hair shaft and it leaves it feeling so silky, smooth. It sounds mad I know, but don’t knock it til you’ve tried it.

If I knew just how easy it was to make these beforehand I would have been wailing it from the rooftops. Scrubs like this are usually fiendishly and wrapped with a nice bow and a tag would make a lovely present for a friend for Christmas. Or even yourself, I’m sure you deserve it a whole heap more!

The Versatile Blogger Award!

Good evening my favourite little internet people, I am currently poorly. I am run down, sleepy, full of cold and generally feeling like a solid 4.5 out of 10. Not ideal. I had loads of plans to get one with lifey stuff this week, like applying for jobs, I wanted to exercise a little bit more with the gym equipment I have had at home but who wants to do that stuff anyway least of all when they feel like poop?! So i’ve been doing a lot of sleeping, feeling oh so sorry for myself and trying to catch up with my blog writing. at 6pm on friday you can see how well that went.

The very lovely Jessica at Jessicat Beauty had nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award and it very much made my day! I really love Jess’s blog I love her way of writing, I feel like she’s writing as if she’s just chatting away at me. Plus I really enjoyed reading her review on the urban decay heat palette as seen here. The Versatile Blogger award is not only a great way to spread some positivity amongst other bloggers but also a good opportunity to check out other bloggers and their fabulous blogs too.

versatile blogger

So the Versatile Blogger award is where you must thank the person who nominated you and link their blog in your post, nominate fifteen other bloggers to take part in this too and also share seven facts about yourself in your blog. So here goes!

  1. I am obsessed with food. I mean it’s not much of a secret or a fact if you scroll through my blog or instagram.
  2. I have a lot of random pipe dreams of things I’d like to do as a career. So much so I feel a little bit like Mr Benn. One day I want to have my own ice cream parlour, I want to be a hair stylist and colourist the next, to wanting to become a pilot (I watched Dunkirk in the summer and now all I want to do is fly spitfires I’m a little bit obsessed).
  3. Over the next 12 months I’m setting myself little mini goals I want to complete. Nothing huge but just personal things I’ve wanted to do for some time. Like I want to learn a skill and am considering going back to college. I want to get fitter and I want to do fun things basically! I’m sure I’ll be keeping you all up to date on here, on my twitter page and on my instagram account.
  4. My favourite animal (aside from my super cute dog) is an elephant.
  5. I want to travel a lot more but I’m a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit afraid of flying. The two don’t exactly go hand in hand but my wanderlust kinda outweighs my fear. Plus i’m looking into going to Canada in Spring 2018 with one of my buddies and unfortunately there is no boat or train there…yet.
  6. I have the biggest sweettooth in the UNIVERSE. Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with pick n mix, puddings, cakes, ice cream. You can tell I’ve always been a little bit of a chubster!
  7. I am a sucker for superstitions as silly as that may sound. I went to see a psychic with one of my friends back in May and I honestly believed everything she said…Well apart from the part where she said I was going to be pregnant in the next 18 months, kinda scary. But I always like having a flick through my horoscopes, saluting to magpies. I’m a little obsessed with the moon and the stars too.

AAAAAAAAAAAND the bloggers I’d like to nominate are!

Molly

Paolo

Jess

Hannah

Abby

Alex

Erika

I hope you enjoy having a peruse over these blogs and the bloggers behind them too. These are some of my favourite bloggers and internet people so I hope you like them as much as I do. And to everyone I’ve tagged, I can’t wait to read all your posts and read some random, fun facts about you all!
