PMD Clean Review! *

This post has been a long time in the making for one reason or another but I’m so glad to say this post is FINALLY live!

I love anything beauty or skincare related and I thought it’s high time I started sharing this passion more often on here. I have a makeup, lotion and potion collection in my bathroom that could rival the size of a small Boots store and I really just can’t help myself when it comes to purchasing new body butters or facial oils at the moment.

I’m a bit fussy when it comes to the products I use on myself. I have quite sensitive skin and suffer with bouts of dermatitis/psoriasis from time to time. So far this year I’ve had such a terrible flare up across my face and into my hairline and scalp which I won’t lie has been absolutely horrendous. So for this reason I like to make sure any products I use won’t irritate my skin and I also like to make sure they’re cruelty free as well.

I’m thrilled to say I was gifted an item from the skincare brand PMD Beauty this year. I forged a lovely friendship with Harlen, the PR aficionado and all round total babe (She got me into You on Netflix and I got hooked INSTANTLY). She kindly arranged for me to be gifted me the PMD Clean back in February of this year (I did say this post was a long time in the making) for me to try out and review.

I’ve always seen a lot of beauty bloggers raving about similar devices in the past, and they’ve always been something I’ve been intrigued into introducing into my skincare routines but was unsure about which one to go for, how much to realistically spend and whether it would be suitable for my problematic skin. After reading the spec about this product I had high hopes as it seemed like it could be right up my alley.

So first off I’m going to give you a little background info about this product, my first impressions on opening it and then I’ll move into my thoughts and feelings on using it in my routine. You ready?

The PMD Clean uses something called Sonic Glow Technology enabling it to vibrate over 7,000 times per minute. This enables it to get deep into the skin, to really break down and remove any dirt or impurities that have been trapped, leaving you with a beautifully clean and vibrant looking skin.

The brush is made of a waterproof silicone so it’s super hygienic, odour resistant so even if you’re using strongly scented products; no smells or residue will be left behind. It’s hypoallergenic so it’s perfect for a whole range of skin types, even me with my fussy, sensitive skin.

One side of the brush head is covered in small, soft bristles perfect for cleansing, massaging and exfoliating. The eagle-eyed of you may have noticed that there’s a small section of bristles which are a little bigger than the rest; excellent to use on the difficult areas like the chin, jawline and around the nose. The reverse side of this is used for the anti aging massage feature. It has four little grooves making it perfect creams and serums to be absorbed into the skin.

This device has four different settings in total.  Setting one is a slower constant vibration and setting two is a faster constant vibration. These two are perfect for when you are using the bristly side of the device when you are cleansing your skin. Setting three is a gentle pulsing sensation whereas setting four is a much faster pulsing sensation.

So how do you use it?

All of that sounds great doesn’t it? But is it as good as it says it is? The PMD recommended way of using this product is by removing any makeup off of your face, wetting the skin and gently applying your cleanser. Following that, rinse the PMD Clean under some warm water and in a circular motion running the PMD Clean across your whole face using either setting one or two. I stuck with the first setting as it was slower, much more gentle and gave me a better ability to have control.

The beauty of applying things or using this product for instance in a circular motion is that it enables the product to sink into the skin quicker, it stimulates lymphatic circulation which basically helps to bring blood to the surface and clears toxins a whole lot faster as well so gives you that fresh, bright appearance.

The skin around your eyes is extra delicate so try to be as gentle as possible here and just gently pat or press any creams into the skin.

Once you’ve fully cleansed your face, simply rinse both your face and the PMD Clean with water and pat dry with a towel. Or leave the device to air dry if you’re like me and don’t want little towel fibres stuck in the bristles.

When it comes to using the reverse side (the massager side) I followed a similar technique to the one seen above. Applying a serum or a night cream into my skin and gently massaging using the slower setting. With prolonged use this feature can help with anti aging by lifting, firming and toning the skin as well as increasing collagen production.

My experience using this:

I wasn’t sure if this was genuinely going to have much of an impact on my daily skin routine to be quite honest. It sounded amazing, if anything it sounded too good to be true. I know as someone who’s probably spent more money than I care to think about into the beauty industry how many products I’ve bought on the basis of a good write up on their page so needless to say I was a little sceptical. I persisted however and did genuinely notice a difference in my skin.

It felt smoother, softer and like it had a bit of life about it for a change! During the winter months it looked quite dull and lacklustre and I’m so glad I’ve introduced this product into my normal regime as I now feel confident again to not bother with makeup if I’m leaving the house.

I’ve noticed less breakouts than before but I still get the odd one or two hormonal spots around that time of the month. I’ve even been using this device when I’m using face packs or sheet masks so it really seeps into my skin.

Pros of the PMD Clean:

  • It’s very hygienic and easy to clean.
  • Completely waterproof so if you want to save time you can even use this in the shower.
  • It’s easy to use and you can quickly see great results from it. I certainly noticed a difference in my overall skin health and felt like it did what it said on the tin so to speak!
  • It uses AA batteries so you don’t need to worry about trailing a cord or charging it up. Plus it comes with one battery included as well!
  • It’s lightweight, ergonomic design is nice to hold, easy to carry and will slip into a makeup bag without taking up a lot of room.
  • Comes in a selection of aesthetic colours. I literally couldn’t choose between this navy colour or a warm red berry shade.

Cons of the PMD Clean:

  • You’ll have to keep purchasing batteries for this.
  • Unlike some similar devices, this one doesn’t have interchangeable brush heads.
  • Personally I find the settings with the quicker speeds a little too fast, to the point where they are uncomfortable on the skin. But they can’t please literally everyone!
  • Considering there are more and more of these products emerging onto the market, this one is £89 so it might be out of price range for some people. I really enjoyed this product and can’t imagine my skincare routine without this in it but unfortunately I can’t give a less biased response as this is genuinely the first one of it’s kind I’ve tried.

Once again, thank you so much to Harlen and the lovely people from PMD Beauty. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to grips with this device and my skin certainly did as well! If this is a product you’re still unsure on but would like to know more, I’ve found their website to be super helpful and informative packed with plenty of Q&A’s. If you want to research more I’ll link their website just here. Similarly, if this type of device is something that interests you, they’ve actually launched the PMD Clean Pro to follow this.

The PMD Clean Pro has a flatter base so can stand up on it’s own; you can just imagine it nestled amongst your favourites in your bathroom cabinet. It also features an Active Warmth facial massager on the back whilst the PMD Clean Pro on the right hand side also features this but made with Rose Quartz.

*This post contains a gifted item but all the thoughts, feelings and opinions stated throughout are completely genuine, honest and my own*

Is Arm Candy legit?

Is Arm Candy legit?

chanel bag set uoSome people love shoes, some people love jewellery, I love handbags. I have done since I was a child and I genuinely had the biggest collection of bags for any normal teenager. I must have drove my parents bonkers with it! I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with designer handbags as well. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have that sought after item, the best of the best?! Shortly after I created this blog I entered in a competition to win a designer handbag of my choice. If I’m being completely honest, after I entered I completely forgot about it until a week or two went by and I got a call from an unknown number up in Manchester. At the time I was getting so many scam calls that as soon as I saw this flash up I remember tutting, rolling my eyes and thinking ‘Nope I CBA with this’ so actually declined the call. Little did I know it was actually Rob from Arm Candy ringing to say I was the closest guess (I was one out I believe) and I had won a Chanel handbag. Aka the bag of my absolute dreams.

A few minutes had gone past and I then get a notification on my mobile with a voicemail, baring in mind at this point I was still thinking it was some dodgy company trying to convince me I was owed PPI. I remember thinking the cheek of this one, not only trying to scam me, but to leave a voicemail too!?! Clicking play and putting it on loudspeaker, my mouth genuinely fell open as I heard ‘Congratulations you’re this week’s winner Abbie! You won your Chanel handbag’. So much so I had to replay it about 87 times, making sure it wasn’t someone I knew pulling the most convincing prank with the most convincing northern accent I’d ever heard!

Needless to say, I rang back within about 0.0003 seconds and still couldn’t quite believe it. I still live at home with my family and when my parents and sister came through the door they were even convinced it was too good to be true. After much emailing back and forth I arranged to meet Rob and Gary in a hotel bar in my town. We had some building work at home and also just in case this wasn’t legit I had my mum and sister with me! After a quick chat it was time for me to open the big black Chanel carrier gift bag i’d been eyeing up the whole time and when I did, It was even more perfect than I  imagined!

There’s a handful of reasons as to why I decided to write this post today, for one, I feel like I go on about my experience with them and can’t stop going on about it. I am typically not a lucky person yet still won. I think they’re ruddy fantastic. Secondly, I get quite a lot of page views on the original post I wrote about my experience with arm candy (here) and a lot of emails and questions about them. Whether it’s about their authenticity, if they’re legit or whether there is a sure fire way to win! If you hadn’t heard of Arm Candy until today (well babe where ya been?) it’s a competition site where in which you select the dream designer handbag of your choice, guess the numbers of sweets or candy in a jar and if you guess the correct number or the closest to it you win. Easy as that! You can see why some people deem it too good to be true?! It certainly sounds it. But I can totally promise you it’s 100% legit. So much so I’ve put together, along with the help of the lovely Rachael aka the marketing marvel over at Arm Candy, a little Q&A with all the most frequently asked questions I receive and what Arm Candy is really all about.

How did the idea of Arm Candy Handbags start?

R: Well we knew that girls love handbags! And lots of people aspire to own a designer brand. Most people might be unable to purchase one with the big price tags, so we wanted to help make those dreams a reality and provide people the opportunity to win one – but with a bit of fun!

How did you decide to have a competition of counting sweets in a jar?

R: The name came first, so then the game came quite easily after that! We knew that we wanted our competition to be a game of skill, and with “candy” we instantly thought of sweets! So guessing the number of sweets in a jar seemed a fun and fair game, that’s easy to understand.

Do you get these made up in shop or do you do it yourselves?

R: We started out purchasing from local sweet shops, however we thought it would be more fun to make them ourselves! By doing them ourselves, it means we can create jars around certain themes, add lots more variety of sweets and make them look more exciting!

Who counts the sweets?

R: Every Monday morning after the competition close two members of the Arm Candy team will conduct the official count and film it for its authenticity. One person counts and the other keeps a tally, so we can double check our count.  And don’t worry we wear gloves when counting the sweets for health and safety reasons, as one thing that not many people know, is that the lucky winner gets to keep that jar of sweets to enjoy!

Would you ever post a video of the sweets being counted after every weekly competition comes to a close?

R: Yes as we film all of the sweet counts, we post them to our Arm Candy You Tube channel each week so people can watch them if they wish! We recently even did a Facebook live count which went down really well! We think everyone loved real-time nature to see how close they were to winning! As it was such a success, we’ve decided to continue using Facebook live for the first Monday of every month.

What happens if no one who enters comes close to guessing the correct number?

R: The great thing about Arm Candy, is that there will always be one winner each week! It is rare that someone doesn’t guess the exact count, but if that does happen then we go to the closest guess. Also if there is more than person who guesses correctly, then they all go into a tie break process where they have one guess with a new jar of sweets. The tie breaker that guesses correctly from the tie break jar then is the winner! The best bit, is that everyone who is in the tie break, get a £50 Selfridges voucher so they can still treat themselves to something nice!

Several people think these competitions seem too good to be true! What do you think it is about Arm Candy that makes people question its authenticity?

R: I think it’s the fact that you can win your dream designer handbag for as little as £2! And as it’s a game of skill, everyone has an equal chance! We’ve even had people win on their first ever time of playing! We’ve also had people question our winners videos, whether they are real or staged with actors. All those videos are very much real people, winning their dream designer handbags. Everyone reacts differently when they are on camera and we have some that are over the moon ecstatic and some winners who are very shy and don’t react in that same way. We respect all our winners and never force them to act in a certain way, we try to keep everything as natural as possible.

I get a lot of pageviews on my blog post about winning my chanel bag (seen here ) from last year still from people wondering if this is legit. What can we do to prove to people this is very much real?

R: I believe the winners are the most important thing here! Without them, we wouldn’t have Arm Candy! People believe other people! We try to post as much content about our winners, as we do about the designer bags and the competition itself. That’s also why we personally hand deliver each bag to wherever the winner is within the UK. We like to do this, not only as we love to meet our players and the lucky winner! But also to make sure we get some natural content to prove that we are a real competition, and that we are genuinely giving away an authentic designer handbag, to a real person!

Would you ever think about branching out and stocking watches or purses?

R: We definitely have thought about the future of Arm Candy and whether that involves branching out into complementary items. In the short term, we do plan to run special one-off campaigns that will include bonus prizes such as these.

Or even a men’s selection?

R: We have considered a man’s version, and we’d need to offer the right product as designer handbags might not appeal to the masses of men like they do for females! We have lots of exciting enhancements in the future of Arm Candy… watch this space!

How do you choose which bags to offer?

R: The Arm Candy team like to keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the world of fashion, not only from the designer brands themselves, but what styles key bloggers and influencers are wearing. We try to provide a range that is suitable for many ages, styles and taste! We always love to get feedback from our fans as well, if they would like to see a particular brand or style on the site, we’ll always try our best! We currently only offer styles from iconic designers, however we are very interested to look into offering bags from up and coming designers and more unique styles on our site, if the Arm Candy fans would be up for it!

Which is the most popular?

R: By far Chanel is the most popular brand – when its available to win. We are limited on the number of times we can offer Chanel on our site, otherwise we’d love to have it available for our fans to play to win every single week! Aside from that, the other most popular brands are Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy. There collections are always gorgeous, and we always try to have a few different styles available to win.

I think it would be really exciting if you could add a feature so when you enter, you could input a phone number or the details of a family member or friend. So when the winner guesses the correct amount and wins, you could liaise with that person and surprise the winner with the bag of their dreams at work or wherever! Is this something you’d ever consider?

R: It’s a great idea, and one we have considered as we’d love to be able to surprise the winner! However, the majority of the time we have a tie break situation, so we have to call the winner to tell them that they are in the tie break and give them the opportunity to provide their tie break guess. In this scenario, unfortunately having a surprise wouldn’t work for us at the moment, but it is really something we would like to try and incorporate in the future.

If you feel excited about the opportunity to win your own designer handbag, then we’d love you to play along with Arm Candy and you could be our next winner! Play along here – https://arm-candy.uk.

AND if this isn’t reason enough to take a chance at winning the designer bag of your dreams for less than a price of a takeaway coffee, if you enter this week and you guess correctly, your dream bag will be hand delivered to you by none other than Jack Fowler aka New Jack from this years Love Island?!

Thanks so much for reading ya little hun, I hope you enjoyed this Q&A as much as I enjoyed doing it? ALSO, I hope you’re enjoying the fact I’m on here much more often. I’m thinking of doing Blogtober but I also said that last year, so we’ll see!

MUCH LOVES. X

I made homemade body scrubs.

I probably spent FAR too much time and money on my skincare and beauty regimes. I’m thoroughly getting into the crafting mood thinking about what I can make or bake next and after an afternoon out shopping and spending a ridiculous amount at Lush I tried my hand at making my own body scrubs. For some reason I thought it would be really quite difficult but I honestly couldn’t be farther from the truth with that. I was so, so shocked at how easy it was and also how much money I’ll be saving from now on. If Lush go into administration you can entirely blame me for no longer buying their Rub, Rub, Rub salt scrub. All you need to create your own concoctions are:

  • A sugar or salt. You could you any kind depending on what you want so you could really personalise it to you or even someone you’re gifting it too. Fine, course, maybe even himalayan pink sea salt if you want to make it look nice and pretty. Brown sugar, caster sugar, demerara, once again it’s all completely down to you and your preference.
  • A base oil. Coconut, vitamin E oil, olive oil, jojoba, sweet almond oil, wheatgerm, avocado oil are all really good options. They are all really nourishing for the skin, available in most health food shops or online too and all have a neutral scent so wouldn’t overpower your scrub with a strong smell.
  • An essential oil or something similar to add some scents or even colour to your scrub. Things like herbs might make for an interesting addition, freshly chopped mint, lavender or even rose petals. Rose would look lovely with a pink himalayan salt. I used coffee grounds to make a lovely coffee scrub. It helps reduce the appearance of cellulite so I think I might start bulk making it and selling it off!

IMG_3922

I had these four mini mason jars I originally bought from Ikea with good intentions to do something creative with but they were unused and I filled them instead. You could use kilner jars you can buy pretty much anywhere, bargain shops do them for a relatively cheap price. Old jam jars that have been washed out would look really cool and kitsch.

I made four different flavours or scents if you will. As tasty as these smell, I’d probably recommend against eating them!

I made a coffee scrub. Filling half the jar with brown sugar and the remaining half of coffee grounds I then poured that into a bowl. I did it like that so I knew it would definitely all fit in rather than making waaaaay too much. I poured the coffee/sugar mix into a bowl and then added a tablespoon of coconut oil until I got the consistency I wanted.

I also made a gingerbread scrub. Inkeeping with the christmas theme on my blog at the moment this would also make the perfect gift at christmas for those also keen on clean beauty and skincare. I used the same principal as with the coffee scrub but I filled the little jar up full of brown sugar. Pouring it into bowl with some ginger essential oil, cinnamon essential oil and a dash of star anise. mixing that altogether I poured it back into the jar and screwed the lid on tight.

Switching it up a bit I thought for my next two I would use a course sea salt base instead. Sea salt can be a bit more vigorous so using that in a body scrub would help with shifting dead skin cells and also helping to shift toxins from the body. Rubbing it in, in a slow circular motion helps to get the blood flowing reducing the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite as well as removing the toxins from the body.

I used sea salt with some coconut oil, a few dashes of some spearmint essential oil and some finely diced mint leaves from the garden.

For my last and final scrub, I added some lavender essential oil to sea salt and coconut oil. I wanted a runnier consistency for this one as I love applying it to my hair. It helps with repairing the hair shaft and it leaves it feeling so silky, smooth. It sounds mad I know, but don’t knock it til you’ve tried it.

If I knew just how easy it was to make these beforehand I would have been wailing it from the rooftops. Scrubs like this are usually fiendishly and wrapped with a nice bow and a tag would make a lovely present for a friend for Christmas. Or even yourself, I’m sure you deserve it a whole heap more!
